RECOGNITION

My academic career has been marked by several recognitions of my research excellence and impact in the field of text data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Some of the most notable ones are as follows.

  1. I published a significant journal article titled ‘Regularising LSTM Classifier by Transfer Learning for Detecting Misogynistic Tweets with Small Training Set’ in Knowledge and Information Systems (KIS), which received widespread media attention and citation for its contribution to online abuse detection. According to KIS, this article is the most cited paper in the journal for this kind of research. It was featured in more than 200 national and international media outlets, including Forbes, 7News, Brisbane Times, Daily Mail, Times of India, Hindustan Times, etc.
  2. I developed a model for automatic Bias Detection in text that was commercialized by iShield.ai and is now being used to help Fortune 500 companies to manage their text contents.
  3. Our work on automatic blocking 'offensive student-feedback' has been featured on Australian Campus Review and they published a Podcast on it.
  4. I participated in an international competition (HASOC’19) of abusive text detection and achieved the best performance among all the participants with one of my algorithms.
  5. I received the second-best paper award for my paper ‘A Framework for Automatic Personalised Ontology Learning’ in 2016 IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence.
  6. I collaborated with Marketing Eye to develop a project ‘Robotic Marketer’ that applied algorithmic learning to marketing tasks. This project was showcased by QUT on Medium under the title ‘Marketing made easy with algorithmic learning’.
  7. I was awarded the QUT Write-Up Scholarship 2016, worth $6,572, by Queensland University of Technology, Australia.
  8. I obtained the QUTPRA Scholarship for 3.5 years, worth $86,285 (Approx.), by Queensland University of Technology, Australia.
  9. I secured the QUT HDR Tuition Fee Scholarship for 3.5 years by Queensland University of Technology, Australia.
  10. I was honoured with the Early and Mid-career Researcher Research Publication Excellence Award by QUT Centre for Data Science in December 2021.
  11.  I was honoured with the Commendation of Early and mid-career researcher (EMCR) research publication excellence by QUT Centre for Data Science in October 2023.

Research support income

I have secured a total of $39,500 in Category 2-4 research income from external sources (25,500 in 2019 and 14,000 in 2021) and I have been awarded $70,000 in seven internal (CDS) research grants of $10,000 each in 2021 and 2022. Moreover, I have collaborated with Professor Richi Nayak at QUT on several research consultancy projects in the area of natural language processing and machine learning. For my PhD research, I received the QUTPRA Scholarship for living cost ($86,285 Approx.) and the QUT HDR Tuition Fee Scholarship for tuition fee by Queensland University of Technology, Australia.

Other professional activities

I have engaged in various professional activities that demonstrate my contribution to the academic community and the industry. Some examples are as follows.

  1. I served as an editorial member for MIDAS 2021 (International Conference on Machine Intelligence and Data Science Application), where I reviewed and edited the submitted papers for quality and relevance.
  2.  I was appointed as the publicity chair of Australasian Data Mining Conference in 2020 and 2021, where I promoted the conference to potential participants and sponsors.
  3. I chaired sessions in research conferences  such as IJCNN 2023, MIDAS 2021, where I introduced the speakers and facilitated the discussion.
  4.  I reviewed journal articles for Web Intelligence and Agent Systems and conference papers for IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence, providing constructive feedback and recommendations.
